3 sustainable candles you need in your home

Did you know most household candles contain palm oil?

As well as being used in products like chocolate, bread and makeup, palm oil - which is an edible vegetable oil that comes from the fruit of oil palm trees- is often found in candles.

At George we are pleased to use only sustainable palm oil which is certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standards.

As active members of the RSPO, we believe in working with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), palm oil growers, suppliers and international governments on sustainability standards, rather than saying 'no' to palm oil altogether.

Since 2015, all of the palm oil used in Asda products came from RSPO-certified sources.

So, if you want to indulge in your candle habit in a sustainable way, here are a couple of our favourites…

This pretty ceramic pink number lightly scents the home with a gorgeous floral aroma, and has an impressive burn time of up to 30 hours. But it looks great, too - reuse as an ornament once you’re done to bring a welcome pop of colour to the home.

With luxurious rose gold, gold or silver-coloured lids, these candles make a stylish gift for friends - or, at just £6 each, you could just keep the whole range for yourself. Pick from pomegranate, lime, basil and mandarin or a rose and oud combination, and crank up the cosiness.

Heaven scent

If you haven’t yet tried out an Eco Wix candle, you’re missing out. Created with a single wooden wick that sounds like a crackling campfire when lit, these chic glass jars have the /best/ scents (think flavours like cotton blossom and mint triple). Our favourite? Citrus Zest - heavenly.
