2020 has been a difficult year for so many people, that's why our community team is doing all they can to spread festive cheer around this Christmas. With the uncertainty surrounding Christmas plans and whether families will be able to get together to celebrate, it's more important than ever to support individuals in communities that will be hit hardest. Read on to find out which initiatives, activities and continued partnerships our community team are getting on board with!
Here's how we’re fighting hunger this Christmas
We want to ensure the most vulnerable people in society have peace of mind this Christmas, knowing that they can put food on the table, so no one goes hungry.
That's why we’re providing one million meals this Christmas. This donation of one million meals is on top of all the work we already do with our charity partners, FareShare and the Trussell Trust, through the Asda Fight Hunger Create Change programme, where we've donated over £23 million to create long-term positive change to poverty in the UK.
We’ve funded a new FareShare warehouse
What's a FareShare Warehouse you ask? Well, thanks to Asda funding, FareShare has opened a new warehouse in Devon and Cornwall to support the most vulnerable in this area. FareShare redistributes good quality, in-date surplus food to frontline organisations.
Funding through Asda Fight Hunger Create Change has enabled FareShare to improve its infrastructure and grow its capacity, and as a result, has now been able to expand its service into this area!
We’re delivering Christmas Kindness
At Asda we care about the communities we serve, so this Christmas we're on a mission to deliver kindness to the people who need it most. We're providing more support than ever to help to rebuild local communities and ensure we play our part in giving everyone the Christmas they deserve.
We will be donating over £1m from Asda and the Asda Foundation to support good causes local to our stores. Raising much-needed funds for our Fight Hunger Create Change partnership to tackle the root causes of poverty and our amazing network of Community Champions will be working with local groups to tackle social isolation and spread some festive cheer!
We really want to help to tackle loneliness this Christmas and enable communities to stay connected, supporting those people that may feel lonely throughout the festive period. So we are asking you to take part in our Christmas Card Appeal.
In your local Asda you will see an Asda Post Box with the details of the local care home the store are supporting, as well as, blank Christmas Cards to take away. Please take a card home with you to decorate, write a little message and pop it back in the post box next time you are shopping, we will see to it that one of the residents at the care home receives your card.
If you or anyone you know is feeling lonely this Christmas please contact Mind UK on their Infoline: 0300 123 3393
