Shoppers at our Patchway store in Bristol were part of a historic achievement when they helped Gareth Sanders set a new world record in aid of clean water charity Frank Water.

Gareth, who’s 28, invited customers at the Asda store in Bristol to help him out by bringing in their clothing for him to press. In total he ironed for 100 hours, completing around 2,000 garments, and smashing the previous record of 80 hours ironing.

Community Life Champion Lisa Godber said: "Gareth has undertaken a unique challenge to raise money for charity every year since he beat a rare blood disease in 2008.

“He contacted various supermarkets to help him with his ironing challenge and I replied as I was curious and I knew we had the space. Customers thought he was crazy at first, but then they understood and brought in their clean clothes and bed sheets for him to iron.

“We provided Gareth with as much support as we could and gave him a celebration cake and chocolates at the end.”

Gareth’s world record attempt was recorded and has been sent to Guinness World Records for verification. Well done Gareth!
