Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with mum. Whether she loves being pampered in a spa, or maybe she has a sweet tooth and would love an afternoon tea out, or perhaps she's loves the great outdoors and can think of nothing better than a stroll along the beach, or exploring a beautiful flower garden, there are lots of planned activities happening all across the UK.

If she loves the outdoors

Spot wildlife: Treat your mum to a gentle boat ride through the beautiful National Trust nature reserve, Wicken Fen. This hour-long trip gives you the chance to spot local spring wildlife whilst enjoying the tranquillity of the River Cam. Perfect bonding time. 

Pot a daffodil:  Enjoy the stunning surroundings of Gibside, a beautiful 18th-century landscaped garden in Tyne & Wear, and plant pretty daffodils together. Plus, there’s a lovely pub next door to enjoy a Mother’s Day glass of wine or two. 

Stroll around a country house and grounds: Make your mum feel special with a day out at Lyveden, an extraordinary Elizabethan lodge in Northamptonshire. Explore the historic landscaped gardens and take in the tranquil moat, viewing terraces and Elizabethan orchards. Finish off with scones and clotted cream in its Cottage Tea Room. 

Go gardening: For green-fingered mums you can’t beat a day of gardening in an 18th-century National Trust garden. Pop along to Prior Park, Somerset, for their special snowdrop planting day - you’ll even get to take one home with you. Reward your hard work with a tasty treat from the tea shed. 

BBQ on the beach:  Studland Bay, Dorset, is home to some of the south coast's most unspoilt beaches. Treat your mum to a spring lamb lunch cooked on Studland’s outdoor wood fired oven. Then take time to explore the four miles of golden sand, views of Old Harry Rocks and wildlife-rich heathland. There’s so much to discover.

If she is crafty

Learn new sewing skills: Head to Castle Ward, a unique 18th-century mansion in County Down, to take a special house tour this Mother’s Day. Learn what crafts ‘ladies' would have partaken in during ye olden days. From linen to needle work, there’s the chance to learn new creative skills and create something unique. 

Arrange flowers: Rather than just buying her a bunch - you and mum can make a beautiful bouquet together. Learn the art of flower arranging at this chic floral Mother's Day workshop run by Olivia Burton and Wild Wood in Hoxton, East London.

If she enjoys the arts

Have a laugh: Austenatious is a brilliant mix of period drama, comedy and improv. This impressive troupe perform a totally improvised Jane Austen novel with hilarious consequences. They tour the country, and on Mother's Day you'll find them at Leicester Square Theatre in London.

Visit Beatrix Potter's home: Give your mum the chance to experience Beatrix Potter's beautiful 17th-Century farmhouse, Hill Top in Cumbria. You’ll have exclusive after-hours access to the house and the opportunity to get up close to items from the Beatrix Potter collection on this special tour. Discover the world that inspired Potter and led to many of her remarkable books and illustrations. Finish up with a refreshing glass of wine. 

If they love pampering

Get a facial: As a special Mother’s Day treat, the National Botanic Garden of Wales are offering FREE entry to all mums. You'll also find an impressive line-up of beauticians, make-up experts and local food producers offering a tempting range of tasters including free glasses of elderflower Champagne, facials, skin care advice and manicures. 

Sip Champagne: Take a special trip to Waddeson Manor in Buckinghamshire. This magnificent house, in the style of a 16th-century French château, has a special treat for Mother’s Day. You can enjoy Champagne afternoon tea served with a selection of delightful pastries and dainty savouries. Yum. 

Relax in a spa: The beautiful Thermae Bath Spa, Bath, is the ultimate pamper treat for your lovely mum. Plunge into the naturally warm, mineral-rich waters, relax in the aroma steam rooms and enjoy the city views form its open-air roof top. Bliss. 

Share afternoon tea: Give your mum a special treat this Mother's Day at The Argory, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, Victoria sponge, homemade scones and other drool-worthy delights. Walk it off afterwards with a stroll around the estate’s charming rose garden and the larger Pleasure Ground garden overlooking the river.
