Welcome to Asda's festive wine guide!
Whether you're choosing wines to go with your Christmas dinner, for a festive get-together with friends, or as a gift for someone special, as we build up to the big day, our weekly wine guide will be on hand to offer suggestions - and inspiration - on how to pick the perfect bottle.
The Asda Wine Team - which is made up of experienced wine buyers and winemakers - works directly with vineyards and winemakers to bring customers an exclusive range of delicious wines you won't find anywhere else.
And in the coming weeks, our step-by-step wine guides will be showcasing some of the fantastic reds, whites, rosés and festive fizz they have in-store to help your Christmas go with a bang.
There's something for every budget - from the Extra Special range to great-value Wine Atlas gems.
Have you heard about Asda's award-winning La Moneda Reserva Malbec, for example? Back in June, the bargain bottle of Chilean Malbec was crowned the world's best red in the under £15 category at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards. It beat thousands of other competitors (16,000 in fact!) to be named best in show in a blind tasting test with a panel of 240 experts.
The judges praised the wine, which has 'flavours of freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice', for its ‘succulent juicy berries’ and its 'excellent freshness’.
It's not just Malbec, though. This year, Asda has won over 400 awards from respected industry competitions - the International Wine Challenge and International Wine & Spirts Competition included - making it their most successful year to date.
As we head into December, we'll start you off with a selection of classic reds and whites that are certain to become firm favourites this Christmas and beyond.
These all-year-round classics have been chosen by the team of wine experts because they're perfect for sharing with family and friends.
If you like rich and full-bodied wines, for example, you'll love this Gran Colina Rioja Gran Reserva (far left above), a classic, silky wine with rich fruit and spicy vanilla notes. It's perfect with roast lamb and hard cheeses.
Or, you could try a bottle of the Vincini Amarone Della Valpolicella (second from left), which has aromas of dried fruit, dark chocolate and sweet spice and goes well with red meats and mature cheeses.
Fans of Chianti might want to branch out with this Brunello di Montalcino, with hints of vanilla and dark chocolate that complement the rich plums and sweet blackberries - this one's great with red meat and game.
If you're more of a white wine drinker and after something crisp and refreshing, look no further than this Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc (third from right) - perfect with seafood, fish and goats' cheese, it's an elegant and stylish wine with layers of fresh lemon, grapefruit and gooseberry.
Also lovely with seafood is the Saint Clair Founders 78 Sauvignon Blanc, which is rich with passion fruit and a hint of gooseberry.
And finally, if you like your Pinot Grigio, why not try this Extra Special Gavi? Made from the Cortese grape, this dry, crisp wine has hints of lemon and a nutty finish and pairs with chicken and fish.
Make sure you look out next week for our Perfect Pairings guide, showing you which wines work best with your choice of festive meat and all the trimmings.
