What to wear on Christmas Day: 3 ‘costume’ changes to see you through the big day

What will you be reaching for come Christmas Day morning? A fleecy onesie, a new dress, or something in between? For some, there's no point in dressing up – you'll either be eating or in front of the telly, after all. For others, it's an excuse to really go to town with something super-sparkly.

If you want to enjoy the best of both worlds, devote a morning to swanning around in your pajamas before changing into something a little more luxurious come lunch time. Here's our round-up of comfy and cool Christmas Day 'costume' changes....

Christmas morning

This 'Not Today' PJ sweater sums up that Christmas Day mood perfectly – postpone the housework and make another cuppa instead.

Beware, though, as its fleecy lining and long body makes it so cosy you might not want to take it off at all.

And how about this cute penguin jumper? Throw it over your pajamas and you're all set for Christmas brekkie and a spot of gift-unwrapping.

Christmas lunch

If you've spent the morning up to your elbows in sprouts, stuffing and turkey grease, changing into something a little luxurious will help you transition to a slightly more zen mindset. Keep it loose and comfortable, though, to accomodate second helpings of pud...

After a foolproof outfit? Pair a simple grey top with a pair of dark jeans, and slick of sparkly eye shadow. This light charcoal-coloured knit is subtly embellished with shimmering gems.

Looking to dress up?

Slink around in this flowing gold dress instead. Pair with flats for comfort or gold heels for extra bling. Then all you need is a good dusting of bronzer and a statement pair of earrings.

Christmas evening

Christmas evening is spent, by most of us, in a state of food-induced lethargy, drowsily slumped in front of the telly. For optimum comfort, pull on something that is soft, and (ideally) has an elasticated waistband. You'll thank us...

This cream cable knit jumper is spot on – pull it over whatever you're already wearing, or team with a velvety pair of leggings.

If you're planning Christmas evening cocktails or having guests over, you could dress those same leggings up with a pretty blouse. Note that it is also pleasingly loose.

Ta da! That's your outfit sorted, whatever your Christmas plans.
