Adding to Disney's recent remakes (from Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins to 101 Dalmatians), there's a new film in the making.
Disney has made a point of teaming up with strong and inspiring actresses to reinterpret classic fairy tales and give them a feminist twist, casting Emma Watson as a strong-willed Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Emma Stone as the powerful but cruel Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians.
The upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie will see Belle (Emma Watson) reimagined as an inventor, and the planned Cruella film will tell the story of 101 Dalmatians through the eyes of its fashionable villain (Emma Stone).
Now Disney are planning on taking the well-known classic tale of Santa Claus and giving it a modern spin, giving it a much-needed girl-power makeover, and have reached out to Anna Kendrick to star in the leading role – not as a Mrs Claus (Santa's wifey) but as Nicole, Santa's daughter.
In Disney's version of the story, life in the North Pole is a little boring for the women of the Claus family – particularly as Santa has been training Nicole's brother to take over the family business.
But when Santa finally retires, it seems that Nicole's brother isn’t ready for the responsibility and ends up getting cold feet just before his first big Christmas Eve flight.
Enter Nicole, who’s more than ready to tackle all the issues of nervous reindeer, missing gifts and breaking and entering into millions of homes all over the world.
There's no word yet on a release date, but we're going to take a wild guess and suggest that a Christmas unveiling is likely – although it’s far more likely Christmas 2018 than later this year, seeing as Anna Kendrick just started work on Pitch Perfect 3.
So you'd better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I'm telling you why – Anna Kendrick is (possibly) coming to town!
