Bridget Jones’s Baby: Helen Fielding confirms there’ll be a new book

The brand new Bridget Jones’s Baby film starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Grey’s Anatomy favourite Patrick Dempsey is almost here but if that wasn’t exciting enough, author Helen Fielding has now confirmed there’ll an all new Bridget Jones’s Diary book, too.

It’s official; we cannot wait for this hilarious new read!

With the film set to hit cinemas in September, Fielding has revealed in an official press release that she’ll be publishing Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries shortly after on 11th October.

The new novel will follow the same plot as the film, telling "Bridget’s story of her somewhat bumpy journey into motherhood".

Fans of the bestselling book series will remember that in the last instalment, Bridget Jones’s Diary: Mad About The Boy, Mark Darcy sadly met a fateful end, leaving Bridget a widow. So it’s with great joy that we can reveal that the Bridget Jones’s Baby book will pick up long before that happens, meaning Darcy will be back on our pages at his awkwardly perfect best.

“As she careers towards baby-deadline, tortured by Smug Mothers miming her ticking biological clock, a series of classic Bridget Jones moments finally leads her into pregnancy – but just not quite as intended,” says the official book teaser.

“It’s a pregnancy full of cheesy potatoes, outlandish advice from Drunken Singletons and Smug Mothers, chaos at scans and childbirth classes, high jinks and romance, joy and despair – but all of it dominated by the terribly awkward question – ‘Who’s the Father?’”

Talking about her much-loved character taking on the challenge of motherhood, Fielding says: “At heart Bridget Jones is about the gap between how we all feel we’re expected to be and how we actually are and – as Bridget discovers with her somewhat bumpy pregnancy – how we expect life to turn out and how it actually does."

“I’m excited to see Bridget’s world on the big screen again, and delighted to be published by Jonathan Cape.”

It’s official – we cannot wait for this hilarious new read!
