He gave us songs like ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘Sing’ and ‘Drunk’ and now after a year out of the music game, Ed Sheeran will be gracing us with a new tune this Friday.
Revealing the news we’ve all been waiting for, the 25-year-old said a very warm hello to 2017 by posting a video on Twitter in which he is seen waving to fans whilst holding a piece of paper with the words, “New music coming Friday!!” written on it.
This comes after the star announced in December 2015 that he was ‘taking a break…to travel the world and see everything I missed’.

He said: “I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while, I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.”
The singer-songwriter, who’s had two UK number 1s and 10 UK Top 10s, emerged into the charts with his debut album ‘+’ in 2011. Three years later in 2014, Sheeran released his second studio album, '×', which sold 180,000 copies in its first week of release.
The star wrote this year’s X Factor winner’s single, When Christmas Comes Around, which debuted at number three in the charts.
Sheeran gave his first official return performance for a charity gig at the Natural History Museum at the end of November.
