JK Rowling reveals major spoiler news about Fantastic Beasts

The first film based on JK Rowling’s book Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is due to hit cinemas this November, but at a fan screening in London last night, the author made a surprise appearance and revealed a whole load of new information.

“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie. We knew that from the start.”

Even cast members - including star of the film Eddie Redmayne - didn’t know what she was planning!

So what was revealed? The main news of the night is that the film series, which was originally going to be a trilogy, will now include a whopping five Fantastic Beasts films.

That’s right, five brilliant films instead of three.

Not one to do things by halves, Rowling also dished out several other golden nuggets of info - warning, some are spoilers - which have sent both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts fans into a frenzy.

Ready for the low down? Don’t read on if you’d rather not know any secrets!

There will be five films

As already mentioned, Rowling revealed that there will be five Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them films, including the first which is set to be released on 18 November. Why add two extras? Well…

JK Rowling has already planned them all

Yep, there needs to be five films because JK Rowling and her team have been hard at work penning an outline for the scripts, and found that they couldn’t fit everything they wanted to do into just three flicks.

“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie. We knew that from the start,” she told fans at the event.

“We said a trilogy as a kind of placeholder because we knew there would be more than one movie. I've now done the plotting properly and we're pretty sure it's going to be five movies!”

Newt will travel all over

While the first Fantastic Beasts film takes place in New York in 1926, the next film will be set in a completely different part of the world. “We next see Newt in another big capital city,” hinted director David Yates. “It's not going to be New York. It's somewhere else entirely! [JK] has actually written the script and it's just as magical and just as marvellous as the first one - but very different.”

Gellert Grindelwald will play a huge role

The fearful dark wizard will be playing a much larger role in Rowling’s new scripts. So much so, David Yates noted: “He's going to become a much more prominent part of the stories going forward.” The upcoming film is even said to open with a Gellert Grindelwald scene, along with The Sign of the Deathly Hallows.

Dumbledore will be involved

Perhaps the most exciting spoiler of all, Rowling revealed that Dumbledore will be involved in Fantastic Beasts, although to what extent he will feature in the films is still a well-guarded secret.

We can't wait!
