All aboard - there’s going to be a gin cruise!

It seems the world has gone crazy for gin.

Approximately 40 million bottles of the juniper-based spirit, were sold in 2016

Over the past year alone we've seen the opening of London's gin hotel (The Distillery), then came a gin bus which toured the capital and now, my gin-loving friends, there’s another great gin adventure sailing this way – a gin cruise.

Dorset Cruises has launched two wonderful escapades called The Artisan Gin Cruise and Conker Gin Dorset Cruises.

The first is a three-hour long event designed for guests to try different gins and handcrafted cocktails. Whilst the latter gives gin lovers the chance to meet the owners of Dorset’s first gin distillery, Conker Spirit, and enjoy a three-course meal.

Both cruises, which set sail next month, are dedicated entirely to the joy of drinking gin on a boat - our idea of perfection!

There are 4 VIP tables available at the Artisan Gin Cruise, which takes place on board a vintage motor yacht, and when the cruise sets sail the gin guide will introduce selected artisan gins and give you a masterclass on each.

You’ll also be given your own bottle of artisan gin and various mixers whilst you take in the views of Brownsea Castle, Millionaires Row at Sandbanks and the islands of Poole Harbour.

But don't panic - there’s also 20 single tickets available if you don't fancy going VIP, where you’ll be able to enjoy the fun, try three gin-base cocktails and soak up the atmosphere as you set sail around the southern coast of England.

Those hoping to board the Conker Gin cruise will take to the high seas in a 1938 vintage motor yacht, called the Dorset Queen and experience a private gin masterclass from the Conker Spirit distillery. You'll also learn about the gin production and the history of the rise of Conker Spirit whilst sipping cocktails crafted by the onboard mixologist.

Next up is a 3-course meal and you'll leave the Dorset Queen with your very own hand-signed 700ml bottle of Conker Gin.

The launch of the cruises comes after figures released by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA), show that we consumed record amounts of gin in 2016.

Approximately 40 million bottles of the juniper-based spirit were sold last year, which is enough to make a staggering 1.12 billion gin and tonics. Not too shabby!

Not only have gin sales increased over the last year, but there has also been a massive boom in the number of distilleries opening in the UK, with 40 new distilleries opening in the UK between January 2016 and November 2016.

To stock up on all the gin you'll need this summer head online to Asda or pop into your local store
