Keira Knightley is set to take on a super sweet Disney role

Disney has confirmed Hollywood rumours that they’ll be creating a live-action retelling of festive ballet The Nutcracker, and Keira Knightley has bagged a scrumptious role indeed.

We can't wait for all the magic!

While rising star Mackenzie Foy will play the lead role of Clara, who is given the Nutcracker as a Christmas present by her godfather, Keira will slip on her ballet shoes to star as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Based on the 1816 story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, The Nutcracker and The Mouse King, the new film will take on the slightly modified title of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, but is said to follow the same story as the original, where the Nutcracker doll comes to live and leads his toy army into a battle with the evil Mouse King.

Though the amount of dancing that the Pirates of the Caribbean star will be doing is yet to be confirmed, Tchaikovsky’s 1892 ballet adaptation of the tale does involve a rather epic performance of the famous Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

But even if Keira skips the pirouettes, the film will still have at least one major dance scene, with American ballet dancer Misty Copeland already confirmed to be the head ballerina.

Morgan Freeman is also confirmed to be playing a key role in the film, though the rest of the cast is currently still under wraps.

The Nutcracker remake is the latest in a line of live-action Disney re-tellings, with The Little Mermaid starring Chloe Grace Moretz due to be released next year, followed by Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson.
