Bake-Off’s Mel Giedroyc lands a brand new job on Let It Shine

After Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins announced that they’d be stepping down as hosts of the Great British Bake Off when it moves to Channel 4 next year, it seemed as though the entire nation was left wondering what they’d do next.

As of last night Mel is now officially host of a completely new BBC talent show, which doesn’t involve any baking at all!

A spin-off to fill the BBC’s Bake-Off-shaped scheduling hole? Another joint chat show? Well for Mel Giedroyc, it’s neither of those things.

At least, not yet anyway.

As of last night Mel is now officially host of a completely new BBC talent show, which doesn’t involve any baking at all!

Confirmed via Twitter last night, Mel will be joining fellow presenter Graham Norton to host Let It Shine; a talent show travelling the country in search of five male singers to star in a Take That stage show.

Of course, Gary Barlow is heavily involved. In fact, he’s head of the judging panel, which also features popstar and former X Factor judge Dannii Minogue, plus Martin Kemp, who will no doubt be calling on his golden Spandau Ballet days for insight.

Mel’s role in the show was confirmed by both the BBC and Gary last night, as the Take That singer shared a snap from the show’s glittering set.

‘This show brings together so many of the things I love – singing, dancing, Gary Barlow and Graham Norton. What’s not to love?’ says Mel of her new gig.

‘I can’t wait to meet the singers and see the performances, which I know will be utterly spectacular. If you know someone who’s got the moves, whether they already sing in the shower or on the stage, we want to see them.’

Musical theatre star Amber Riley, who first found fame on musical TV series Glee, will also be joining the judges during the initial audition stage, while a host of guest mentors will follow in her footsteps as the show progresses.

Though there’s no official air date for Let It Shine as yet, filming is currently taking place and the series should hit our screens in the new year.

We can’t wait to see Mel and Graham hosting together, what a pair!
