Pudsey’s Teddy Bear Picnic is coming to Asda

If you go down to your local Asda store you’re sure of a big surprise - because as of July 15, participating stores will be hosting their first Pudsey’s Teddy Bear Picnic to help raise funds for BBC Children in Need.

'Let’s get as many bears together as possible, and start the celebrations!'

Helping to kickstart Asda's 2017 fundraising campaign for the charity, which raises money for disabled children and young people in the UK, big kids and little kids alike (and of course their favourite teddies) are being invited to picnic with Pudsey Bear, take part in a tombola and get crafty.

Jonathan Rigby, director of commercial at BBC Children in Need said: 'We’re delighted Asda is honouring a favourite childhood toy and paying homage to our beloved mascot – Pudsey, through the Teddy Bear Picnics. Working together we hope to make a difference to even more young lives across the UK, so let’s get as many bears together as possible, and start the celebrations!'

What does the picnic involve?

From eating your favourite picnic treats surrounded by tons of teddies to taking part in a prize-winning tombola - there are plenty of fun activities to keep all picnic-goers entertained.

You'll also be able to turn the Pudsey Bear spinning wheel in the hope of winning a Pudsey-inspired prize. If the wheel lands on a star you could go home with some teddy bear crayons or a Pudsey cookie cutter.

This year is all about the power of play

This is the 17th year running in which Asda is a proud supporter of BBC Children in Need and so far, Asda customers and colleagues have raised more than £17 million to help disadvantaged young children within local communities.

Emma Gittoes, national community manager at Asda, said: 'We want to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people by growing their confidence and resilience through play. Play is a powerful thing. It benefits a child’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and forms a fundamental building block in their ability to thrive.

'Together, Asda and BBC Children in Need has a unique opportunity to raise funds and build a real legacy for the wellbeing of children and young people.'

When and where does the picnic take place?

Asda's first ever Pudsey's Teddy Bears' Picnic kicks off on July 15 across participating Asda stores and fundraising activities will take place across three weeks from then. To find out if your local store is hosting Pudsey's Teddy Bear Picnic you'll need to look out for the advertised date and time in store or ring ahead to check.

How can I get involved?

Once you've checked to see when and where you nearest Pudsey's Teddy Bears' Picnic is taking place, simply pop into your local store and get involved. The picnics will be taking place in our café areas.
