Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had its world premiere over the weekend and fans lucky enough to see it ahead of its general release were blown away.
The Force is strong with this one.
Rogue One is the first stand-alone spin-off from the Star Wars franchise. Starring Felicity Jones, it follows the story of an unlikely band of rebels who are on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's new superweapon.
It is set before the original Star Wars film - Episode IV: A New Hope - which was released in 1977.
And fans have been excitedly drawing comparisons between the two on Twitter.
The last time I loved a Star Wars movie as much as I loved #RogueOne, it was 1977.— Wil Wheaton (@wilw) December 11, 2016
The reviews have been, well, out of this world.
#RogueOne is pretty much everything I was hoping for & then some. So moving/satisfying for so many reasons. Already dying for a 2nd viewing.— Perri Nemiroff (@PNemiroff) December 11, 2016
Director Kevin Smith - and huge Star Wars fan - called it 'Empire Strikes Back great'. High praise indeed.
Critics and super-fans alike gushed over the new film.
So... #RogueOne? It's freaking great! So many crowd-pleasing moments! It's emotional, exciting and incredibly satisfying. Loved it!— Eric Goldman (@TheEricGoldman) December 11, 2016
#RogueOne is FANTASTIC. Incredible action, both planetary and interstellar, and looks GORGEOUS. Most importantly, it feels like Star Wars.— Terri Schwartz (@Terri_Schwartz) December 11, 2016
Holy crap did I love Rogue One. It’s gonna take days to wipe the smile off my face. So many surprises and so much fun. Get excited.— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) December 11, 2016
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One also stars actors Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker.
And if that's got you excited, you don't have long to wait to see it for yourself. Rogue One, which is the first of three planned stand-alone spin-offs, is released in UK cinemas on 15 December.
