The Strictly Come Dancing judges are gearing up for another season of high-tempo tangos and wonky waltz’s, with the celebrity lineup for Strictly 2016 slowly being released.
More celebrities are set to be confirmed for Strictly 2016 over the coming days and weeks
We're getting excited for September already!
Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman took to Twitter this weekend, to reveal that all the A-listers who are set to don their ballroom dancing shoes have now been officially confirmed by show organisers, and that we’re in for one heck of a Strictly season.
The first contestant to be confirmed for the new series was former shadow chancellor Ed Balls!
Yes, we’re rather surprised too, but the Labour MP has said he’s super keen (and terrified) to get on the dancefloor.
“I’d like to say I’m just really excited about learning to dance on TV, but the truth is I’m also scared to death,” he has said of the announcement.
“Making a speech in Parliament seems a piece of cake compared to this, but hopefully I can stick around for a couple of weeks, and have a lot of fun in the process. Strictly is a firm favourite in our living room, and it feels like a dream to be going on myself, especially for Len’s last series. I’m just hoping it doesn’t turn into a nightmare too quickly!”
Given Ed’s amusing past struggles in getting to grips with using Twitter, the news was announced in an appropriate fashion by the Strictly team, referencing the time he tried to search for mentions of his own name, only to end up tweeting it to the world instead!

There’s also a video of Ed making his glitterball room debut (sort of).
Now Pop Idol favourite Will Young and TV presenter Laura Whitmore have announced that they too will be stepping onto the dancefloor alongside the MP.
Whitmore, the first female contestant to be announced and a "big fan" of the show, confessed her involvement on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show with Nick Grimshaw, where she admitted that she had wanted to be on Strictly since it began, adding that it was something her mother had "always wanted me to do." And her mum isn't the only one who's delighted about the news, as Tess Daly tweeted....
Whitemore can't seem to wait either, admitting on the radio that she was already throwing herself into training and was looking forward to "embracing the sequins".
The presenter stressed that the show is "so secretive" that even she is unaware of who the other contenders for the glitter ball will be.
Indeed, it was only after a series of cryptic tweets that Will Young finally revealed his involvement in the popular Saturday night show, adding that he was "so excited".

"As a fan of Strictly for years, I have always imagined myself on the show, but the timing has not been right... until now!" he said in a statement.
Having previously taken ballet lessons and performed in a number of dancing roles, Young is lively to be a favourite amoung Strictly fans. Could he be the contestant with the most dancing experience?
More celebrities are set to be confirmed for Strictly 2016 over the coming days and weeks, so keep your eyes peeled as we’ll be bringing you all the updates as they happen.
In the meantime, let’s all enjoy this 60 second highlight reel from last year’s Strictly Come Dancing series.
