We asked Mimi to share her top tips for shopping and cooking smarter...

Plan your meals

Mimi says: "This is the crux of beating the budget – if you fail to plan, you plan to fail! I take a list to the supermarket and never deviate from it."

Start with the basics

"I buy fruit and veg, lean but cheaper meat, such as pork loins or chicken thighs and store-cupboard staples like tins, rice and pasta, " Mimi adds. "Get the basics – then get creative."

Embrace batch cooking

"No, you don't have to spend all Sunday cooking!" Mimi tells us. "Pop a traybake in the oven and cook pasta and sauce on the hob. you'll have 8 meals ready in two hours."

Know your flavours

Mimi says: "Learn about seasonings and spices, then you make sauces and marinades to your taste. you'll never buy pre-prepped again. "
