Even though we haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet, it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas! And the experts at Good Housekeeping agree, having just released the results of their annual Christmas taste test

It’s a must-have accompaniment to the Christmas turkey, but cranberry sauce is equally great for jazzing up sandwiches, sauces and baked goods.

Each year, the lucky taste testers over at GH sample hundreds of festive foods in the quest for the best. And this year, Asda’s very own Extra Special Cranberry Sauce with Ruby Port beat out rival supermarkets to take home top prize.

Good Housekeeping Consumer Director Caroline Bloor said: 'Our expert team and panel of consumer testers blind test an incredibly wide range of Christmas products, so we can be very confident that these results shine a light on the food and drink that tastes the best.'

It’s a must-have accompaniment to the Christmas turkey, but cranberry sauce is equally great for jazzing up sandwiches (especially ones made with holiday leftovers!), sauces and baked goods. Why not try adding a dollop of sauce to your gravy for extra zing, or topping pancakes with a spoonful of cranberry for festive flavour?

The Good Housekeeping taste testers said that Asda's cranberry condiment was ‘a vibrant, glossy sauce, that's chunky and spoonable. The sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy.’

You can't have cranberry sauce without the turkey and Asda's Basted Large British Turkey was rated as 'perfect for large families.' GH taste testers noted that 'the turkey had crisp, appetising skin and was a lovely golden colour. It's bursting with flavour, and most found the meat tender throughout.'

But that’s not all, Asda also received special mention for its Calvet Cremant de Bordeaux, a French sparkling wine (landing in store soon) that was described as ‘smooth, buttery and very drinkable, with lively fine bubbles,' and its Extra Special Rich & Intense Smoked Salmon 'that melts in the mouth.'  Want to try something a little different this holiday? Tantalise the taste buds with Gin & Orange Smoked Salmon that's coming to stores soon and ‘full of citrusy zest’ and has a ‘deliciously woody flavour.’

For afters (or the perfect tea-time treat), tuck into Asda's Mince Pies with 'a perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the tangy filling.' GH testers agreed that 'the fruit was plump and juicy, and they were pleased with the crumbly texture.’
