Spice Up Your Life With Asda’s Mexican Food Blog: Part I

Get ready for some serious job envy - at Asda, we have a team of dedicated food experts who travel all around the world in order to sample new flavours and unusual dishes. They embark on these culinary adventures so that when they return they can share their delicious discoveries and exciting new ingredients with us back home. Meaning that you can sample authentic cuisine from around the world just by popping into your local supermarket!

Special highlights of the trip included tortas, a Mexican sandwich that's drowned in sauce, and crispy, warm churros dusted with sugar cinnamon

Their latest quest for fabulous flavour took Asda's food innovation team to Mexico, an exhilarating destination full of bold tastes, innovative dishes and mouthwatering new ingredients and methods of cooking. These foodies spent three days trawling through Mexico City's markets, restaurants and streets, all while sampling local ingredients and dishes along the way. While some of these culinary delights might not be to everyone's tastes – like the ant larvae omelette or the 987 day old Mole (chocolate and tomato) sauce – the results of their trip were an amazing explosion of new flavours and plenty of inspiration for tasty dishes, all of which can be seen in an exciting new range of authentic Mexican products due in store soon. But don't worry, you won't be seeing any crispy fried worms or ant larvae on Asda's shelves anytime soon! Special highlights of the trip included tortas, a Mexican sandwich that's drowned in sauce, and crispy, warm churros dusted with sugar cinnamon - yum!

Mexican cuisine has seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years, with high-end restaurants and street food stalls showing off the country's fresh and fiery flavours. Mexico City even boasts three of the 50 best restaurants in the world - an impressive feat. Which is why Asda's team, headed by Innovations Chef Mark Richmond, couldn't wait to travel to this amazing destination for some serious food inspiration! Mark is a real foodie who's spent the last 18 years as a qualified chef in Michelin-starred restaurants. His work now takes him around the world to exotic destinations where he tastes food all day - hey, it's a tough job but someone has to do it! Mark then turns his travel notes into simple and authentic recipes that we can make here at home. We can thank his expert foodie nowse for redeveloping Asda's whole BBQ range - from the way we cook and smoke our meats to developing more authentic BBQ sauces. Mark's latest culinary adventure makes bringing a taste of Mexican flavour to your table easy. Try this quick and easy chicken and peppers tacos recipe for dinner tonight.

Chicken & pepper tacos

Mix some fajita seasoning with a little oil and toss in some sliced chicken breast. Heat a little more oil in a frying pan and fry some sliced red onion and some sliced peppers until soft. Add the chicken and fry for 5 mins more or until the chicken is cooked through. Serve in taco shells with shredded lettuce and soured cream.
