And the top spot in the Decanter World Wine Awards goes to… Asda’s La Moneda Reserva Malbec, £4.37!
Proving that you don’t have to spend a small fortune to drink a decent glass of wine, Asda’s Chilean Malbec was awarded best in show in the best single-varietal red under £15 category at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards.
The winning red wine costs just £4.37 and beat out thousands of other competitors (16,000 to be precise!) in a blind tasting test with a panel of 240 experts.
The winning La Moneda Reserva Malbec from Central Valley in Chile (2015) was described as having ‘an excellent freshness’ with flavors of ‘freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice.’ The wine was also praised for its ‘succulent juicy berries’.
‘At just £5.75, the exclusive La Moneda Reserva Malbec is the perfect example of how we're able to offer shoppers exceptional quality at low prices. The La Moneda Reserva Malbec is also currently on rollback at £4.37, and as the perfect match to barbecued meats, we're expecting high demand in the coming weeks,’ Betts said.
Ready for the BBQ this weekend? This smooth and juicy red wine will go perfectly with James Martin's ultimate burger or Wagyu steak with kimchi pickled vegetables. Vegetarians don't have to miss out on this best red wine though - the freshness of the wine pairs wonderfully with this aubergine, chickpea & feta salad with sumac dressing recipe or keep the grill going with this heavenly peach and mushroom burger recipe.
Hurry up - better order a case now before it goes!
