All hail coffee in a cone: the most bizarre foodie trend yet?

We’ve had ube ice cream, sweet potato toast and deliciously perplexing cookie fries all in the past fortnight, but now there’s an intriguing new foodie trend taking over social media, which may be the strangest of them all.

If you’re lucky, some baristas are also throwing in a tasty looking chocolate dipped cone!

Say hello to coffee in a cone.

The brainchild of one coffee shop in South Africa, the trend sees milky lattes served in a chocolate-lined waffle ice cream cone.

If you’re lucky, some baristas are also throwing in a little heart-shaped latte art too!

Thanks to its incredibly photogenic appearance, the craze has of course taken over Instagram.

Excited coffee lovers have shared over 1,550 snaps of their treats already using the hashtag #coffeeinacone, showing off their unusual morning perks and afternoon pick-me-ups.

Coffee shops as far as Los Angeles and Taiwan have begun serving up the experimental idea too, although the whole thing does come with a slight catch...

Ready for this?

Given the nature of the hot milky coffee and the fairly thin ice cream cones (even though most coffee shops use specially crafted cones with extra lining), you’ve only got around three minutes to enjoy your beverage, before the cone begins to dissolve.

It really is a race to the finish line!

Nonetheless, the trend appears to be going strong, with cones shaped like cups even being thrown into the mix…
