6 loaf recipes for first time bakers

You don't have to be a master baker to whip up some lovely loaf cakes this Real Bread Week.

For an elevenses treat like no other, try making our easy peasy lemon and lime drizzle loaf which is oh-so-simple to make but would stand up to any bakery-bought slice. Or if you're looking to make a serious afternoon tea showstopper, whip up our blackberry swirl yogurt loaf, which is fluffy and crunchy in all the right places making it the perfect accompaniment to a cuppa tea.

From magical masterpieces like our banana bread loaf to wonderful quick savoury wins like our seeded wholemeal loaf, here's the loaf recipes you never knew you kneaded.

Blackberry swirl yogurt loaf

We've swapped butter for natural yogurt in this blackberry swirl yogurt loaf as it helps to give it a delicate and fluffy texture - which is the perfect partner for ripples of tangy fruit purée. Top your loaf with some almonds, which will add the all-important crunch.

Lime and lemon drizzle cake

The weather may be drizzly outside, but this lovely lemon and lime drizzle cake is sure to brighten up your day. Just make sure you drizzle the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven so all the flavoursome syrup really sinks in.

Banana, pecan and honey loaf

Nutty, sweet and moist inside, this banana, pecan and honey loaf is the perfect tea time treat. You could make this cake without the nuts, or use walnuts, almonds or hazelnuts with the skin rubbed off if you're not a fan of pecans.

Courgette & cheese loaf

Loaves don't have to be sweet. Who’d have thought that the humble courgette could play a starring role in such a variety of dishes like this savoury courgette and cheese loaf

Seeded wholemeal loaf

Tasty, textured and wonderful for toast, sarnies and chunky croutons this seeded wholemeal loaf can be on your breadboard in just over an hour. We've used our readymade bread mix, so you'll just need to add some water, knead it and shape into a loaf tin - simples! Then stand back and enjoy the lovely smell of freshly baked bread wafting through your home. Mmm.

Hot cross loaf

Love hot cross buns? Then you'll love our hot cross loaf which you can cut and slice at your own peril. Flavoured with cinnamon and mixed spices and filled with currants and mixed peel, this is everything a hot cross bun should be and more!
