Classy condiments for classic fish and chips

It's National Fish and Chip Day on June 2, and to celebrate we've created the Ultimate Fish and Chip recipe to tantalise your taste buds.

Your fish and chips don't have to be the only star of the show

Of course, making the perfect homemade fish and chips calls for more than just a fantastic recipe – you also need delicious condiments with a flavoursome twist. 

That's why we've whipped up these four fantastic dips and condiments to suit all tastes - because your fish and chips don't have to be the only star of the show. Bon appetit!

Horseradish & caper sauce with bacon

Perfect for dipping your chips in this horseradish and caper sauce with bacon adds a smoky twist on the classic. 

Make it: Put some Asda Horseradish Sauce in a bowl. Grill some Butcher’s Selection Smoked Streaky Bacon Rashers until crisp, then crumble and stir in. Add a few capers and a little chopped parsley. Mix together and serve. 

Beetroot & bourbon ketchup

No fish and chip supper would be complete without some ketchup. This tomato sauce has a richer and earthier flavour making it the perfect accompaniment to your fish.

Make it: Put some Grower’s Selection Cooked Beetroot in a bowl and mash with a fork. Stir in some Asda Tomato Ketchup. Add a small splash of Asda Blended Bourbon (or, if you don’t have any bourbon, vodka or apple juice), mix in well, then serve. 

Broad bean & mint ‘mushy peas’ 

Posh up your favourite side with some summery beansNot only does it look good, it tastes great too!

Make it: Cook a handful of double- podded broad beans in a little olive oil until tender. Add a clove of garlic, crushed, and cook for 1 min more. Mash. Stir in some spring onions, sliced, and season. Serve with mint leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice

Malt vinegar & dill mayo

Add some zing to your mayo with some vinegar, lemon and dill. Yum!

Make it: Put some Asda Mayonnaise in a large bowl and stir to loosen. Add a splash of Asda Malt Vinegar and stir until well combined. Remove the stems from a few dill sprigs and chop the leaves finely. Stir into the mayo. Finish with cracked black pepper and serve.
