This week, October 30 - November 5, marks UK Sausage Week, meaning it's time to celebrate the tasty bangers in all their glory.
From breakfasts to barbecues and everything in between, sausages are one of the most versatile cooking ingredients. And although they taste great when they're cooked and sandwiched in between two pieces of buttered crusty bread, or heaped on top of mashed potato and gravy, there really are hundreds of ways to cook with sausages to get the most out of your favourite fry-up staple.
Sausage and mozzarella pizza
If you're a fan of pizza and a lover of sausages, then this tasty creation will soon become your favourite way to combine the two. Although you might not think it, making your own pizza at home is much easier than it looks. Simply add some oil and water to our ready-made pizza mix and pour over our garlic and tomato sauce. Then, squeeze sausage meat from the skins into small pieces and dot them all over the pizza, along with mozzarella and basil. Delizioso!
Egg, cranberry and sausage plait
Looking for a new lunchtime dish to serve to friends? This sausage plait, which is basically like a massive sausage roll, is the perfect way to dish up your bangers with a difference. We've made this lunch-time showstopper by spooning cranberry sauce over ready ready-made puff pastry, topping the sauce with sausage meat and then placing hard boiled eggs inside.
Sausage and spinach gnocchi
Sausages are perfect for throwing into a simple pasta or gnocchi dish and make a great change from tuna or chicken. This sausage and spinach dish can be on the table in 30 minutes and tastes even more delicious topped with freshly torn basil leaves.
If you're a fan of a very famous fast-food restaurant that does a morning burger, then this is for you. Plus, it's ten times as tasty. The sausage egg muffin is a great alternative to a fry up and is pretty easy to do four in one go. Using the sausage meat to make a burger and cooking the egg in a metal ring is key to creating this amazing breakfast. And don't forget the floppy cheese!
Cheesy sausage salsa rollovers
Chicken, pulled pork and strips of steak might come to mind when thinking about toasted wrap or burrito fillings. But have you ever thought of filling your toasted delight with sausages? In these rollovers we've cut sausages into 1cm-thick slices, added in spinach, cheese, onion and salsa then fried the wrap on a griddle. Simples!
