The best gingerbread flavoured things to eat this Christmas

Nothing signals the lead up to Christmas quite like the sudden glut of gingerbread goodies, everywhere you look – whether in drink or cake form (or hanging from your Christmas tree), those spicy goodies are quintessentially festive. Gingerbread biscuits are thought to stem all the way back to the 17th century, while gingerbread men have been linked to Queen Elizabeth I herself, who supposedly served them to foreign dignateries (and if they're good enough for Queen Elizabeth…).

Needless to say, the gingerbread market has been booming ever since – we just can't get enough of the stuff come November! So, as we’re in the gingerbread spirit, here’s a round-up of recipes to help you get your gingerbread fix, from tipples to ice cream and more.

Gingerbread Tree Biscuits

Let's start with the obvious – gingerbread biscuits. For many, making ginger biscuits is a Christmas ritual – all the better when they double as tree decorations. With a little white icing and some silver ball decorations, these little trees can be spruced up in minutes (feel free to use other cookie cutter shapes – hearts, snowflakes and stars… whatever takes your fancy!).

Gingerbread Shimmer Buck's Fizz

Throw together gin liqueur, clementine juice and a splash of Prosecco and what do you get? This deliciously festive cocktail, which couldn't be more perfect for your next Christmas or New Year party. Don't forget to add a final, pretty flourish with a large twist of clementine zest. Cheers!

Ginger and fruit mountain cake

Perfect for those cold, rainy days when you can't bear to go outside, this Ginger and Fruit Mountain Cake will keep kids (and adults) busy. Elaborately fusing a tasty mixture of fruit cake and actual gingerbread, make sure to set aside enough time for the really fun bit: the icing and decorating!

Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwiches

Gingerbread ice cream, anyone? This dessert is one for ice cream fiends to bookmark for Christmas time – plus it makes a lighter (sort of) alternative to stodgy fruit cake or pudding.

oaty ginger cake

Sometimes you just can't beat a sticky wedge of good old fashioned ginger cake. Combining treacle, soft brown sugar and stem ginger with crunchy oats, how could this not be good?

Craving some gingerbread goodness, minus the prep time? Look this way… From a Gin & Gingerbread Roulade to Handmade Gingerbread Fudge and a Gingerbread Man & Rudolph Biscuit Kit, we've got you well and truly covered.
