Why we’re going wild for watermelon

Bright pink and green motifs are popping up everywhere - here's how to rock the fruity trend this summer

Why we’re going wild for watermelon

First the world went into a flap over flamingos, then we were pining for pineapple, and now our favourite tropical print is the sumptuous and fruity watermelon!

Initially, the fruity design was seen all over the spring/summer 2017 catwalks, and perhaps most notably on Charlotte Olympia’s runway, where the finale featured an oversized watermelon bag. Then soon after, the colourful and fun design began appearing on home accessories like tea towels, mugs and duvets.

So, with the watermelon trend in full bloom, we’ve put together a selection of our favourite fruity fashion finds, homeware items, and wonderful watermelon recipes that are perfect for summer entertaining too.

Watermelon in your home

Add a pop of colour to your kitchen with this watermelon print tea towel. Bold and vibrant, this towel is also made from 100% cotton for a super-soft finish. We can't get enough!

Looking to upgrade your office wear? Look no further than this fun, all-over melon printed blouse. The sleeveless design comes in colourful lightweight material with gold-tone button fastenings. Or you could add a tropical (and glittery) spin to your laid-back look with this tie front top in soft jersey

Watermelons are DOMINATING THE FOODIE SCENE

Watermelon jelly slices

Wow guests this summer with these watermelon jelly slices. Made by hollowing out a whole watermelon and filling with strawberry jelly and blueberries, these picture perfect desserts are ideal for for picnics and barbecues. Kids will love them, and unlike real watermelon, these slices won't make a mess.

Watermelon balls

These gravity-defying floating melon ball jellies are bound to be a hit with kids, and adults too. You just need cut the melon into small balls using a melon baller or teaspoon, make your jelly and watch these masterpieces take shape. You could even try making a giant version in a large jelly mould.
