Kids’ Kitchen - Eddie Makes Southern Chicken

Asda kids kitchen Eddie makes Southern Chicken
Meet eddie

Eddie says...

"I really want to be a chef when I grow up. I started cooking lessons at school about three years ago, making things like lentil curry and spaghetti Bolognese, and really enjoy it. Mostly, I look online for new recipes to try, such as sushi or a roast dinner, but I also like to come up with my own ideas. I thought it would be cool to make my own version of Southern-fried chicken, but baked. It's one of my favourites!"

Eddie's mini interview

Did you learn anything on your day at Asda's Kids' Kitchen?

Gregor, the food editor, showed me how to use a garlic crusher rather than chopping the garlic, which is so much easier. I'll definitely be asking for this kitchen tool for Christmas.

When did you come up with the sauce recipe?

I created the sauce for the Young Chef of the South West competition and I adapted it for this recipe.

We've never seen rice balls before - is that your own idea?

Yes I made it up. I thought it was a bit more interesting and looks a bit nicer on the plate. I've made them a few different ways, including at home in the deep fat fryer!

When did you get into cooking?

I got into it in year six when we started having lessons. The first thing I made was a fruit kebab with strawberries, kiwis and mango. Since then I've really enjoyed making food for other people - it's really fun!
