Ingredients
  • 2 red onions, halved and finely sliced
  • 2 level tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp red wine (or red grape juice)
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves, chopped
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Method
  • Fry the onions over a low heat until soft and translucent.

  • Sprinkle on the sugar, red grape juice or red wine, thyme and balsamic vinegar. Cover and simmer for 3 minutes

  • Simmer, uncovered, stirring often, until sticky and dark red in colour.
