Cook: 3 Hours 15 Mins
- Asda Large British Whole Frozen Turkey (typically 5.3kg), thawed, giblets removed from cavity
- 3 onions, halved
- 6 sprigs thyme
- 2 bulbs garlic, halved, 1 clove reserved
- 1 lemon, halved
- 3tbsp rapeseed oil
- 3tbsp maple syrup
- 2tbsp smoked paprika
- Fresh herbs and cranberries, to garnish (optional)
- Side dishes of your choice, to serve
Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5.
Put the bird in a roasting tin with the onions, thyme, garlic and lemon halves.
Rub the turkey with 2tbsp of the oil; loosely cover with foil. Roast for the calculated time (see top turkey tip above), basting with the cooking juices.
Meanwhile, whisk the remaining oil with the syrup, paprika and the reserved garlic, crushed
About 30 mins before the end of the cooking time, remove the foil from the bird and brush all over with the maple syrup glaze.
At the end of the roasting time, test the bird is cooked through (thermometer must read 75C or above). If not done, roast for another 15 mins and check again.
When the turkey is done, let it rest, covered, for 30 mins. Put on a platter and garnish with the herbs, cranberries and contents of the roasting tin. Serve with the side dishes.
