Ingredients
  • Asda Large British Whole Frozen Turkey (typically 5.3kg), thawed, giblets removed from cavity
  • 3 onions, halved
  • 6 sprigs thyme
  • 2 bulbs garlic, halved, 1 clove reserved
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 3tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 3tbsp maple syrup
  • 2tbsp smoked paprika
  • Fresh herbs and cranberries, to garnish (optional)
  • Side dishes of your choice, to serve
Method
  • Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5.

  • Put the bird in a roasting tin with the onions, thyme, garlic and lemon halves.

  • Rub the turkey with 2tbsp of the oil; loosely cover with foil. Roast for the calculated time (see top turkey tip above), basting with the cooking juices.

  • Meanwhile, whisk the remaining oil with the syrup, paprika and the reserved garlic, crushed

  • About 30 mins before the end of the cooking time, remove the foil from the bird and brush all over with the maple syrup glaze.

  • At the end of the roasting time, test the bird is cooked through (thermometer must read 75C or above). If not done, roast for another 15 mins and check again.

  • When the turkey is done, let it rest, covered, for 30 mins. Put on a platter and garnish with the herbs, cranberries and contents of the roasting tin. Serve with the side dishes.
