Stop the press. We think we may have just found 2016’s dad of the year and it’s only January!
When this doting dad’s daughter asked if he could build her a magical place in her bedroom where she could sit and read books, he more than rose to the challenge.
Known online simply as Rob (his Reddit username is Radamshome), the dad shared pictures of his amazing DIY project online, which shows his daughter’s bedroom transformed into a fairytale forest, complete with toadstools.
The incredible project took no less than 18 months - or 350 hours - to build and was inspired by Disney film set designs. ‘Even though it was difficult, I learned a huge amount along the way,’ says Rob. ‘It turned out pretty well, and she’s so happy in her new room!’
Rob had plenty of experience to draw on as he works in the video games industry as a designer. He began by creating a scale model of the forest and even went so far as to go on private welding courses to make sure the tree skeleton was structurally sound.
The tree itself was made from a welded metal structure and then covered with a wire mesh before a special cement mixture was used to fill the tree trunk and papier mâché layered on to make the branches.
Which begs the question, what happens when his daughter grows into a tricky teenager and demands another bedroom makeover?!
