How to make your bathroom the best room in the house

Giving your bathroom a brand new look can seem a bit daunting - especially when the words 'new' and 'tiles' are in the same sentence.

"Fresh new towels, accessories such a bin, bath caddy and plants can update the space easily"

But with our lovely range of George Home accessories, you don't need to rip out your bath, toilet and sink to make your bathroom look sparkly and new.

On hand to help is Victoria, an interiors addict and founder of blog, Apartment Number 4, who has given us some tips.

She said: "Replacing your whole bathroom suite can be costly but simply redoing the grouting and sealant around the bath can give the space a new lease of life. Fresh new towels and accessories such as a bin and plants can update the space easily."

2017 trends to look out for

Victoria said: "There are three trends that stand out for 2017. First is 'organic', where natural textures such as wood and plant life are juxtaposed with clean, sleek lines to add an element of cosiness.

"Second is 'boldness', where rich, vibrant shades are used on bathroom walls, on the floor and in features such as stand-alone roll top baths." We love these statement, stripy bold accessories range including soap dispenser, tumbler and toilet brush. Plus we think this bright blue mirror will add a splash of bold colour to any bathroom.

"Lastly, 'geometry' will see symmetry make its way into the bathroom this season, with geometric prints used on shower and sink tiles to create a statement wall."

Storage solutions

Victoria said: "Bathrooms are often small spaces so storage is essential. Ladder shelves with wicker baskets to store away towels and larger items towards the bottom are great. Towards the top of the ladder shelf, put out your everyday pieces like skincare, body lotion etc.

"Also utilise the space above or below your sink by adding a floating cupboard or small drawers. You could even maximise space under your bath by building a bath panel with added shelving or cupboard space behind it." These storage baskets are ideal for tucking away by your sink, or stacked on top of each other and these are perfect for storing bulky objects like towels.

Incorporate some colour

Victoria said: "If painting your bathroom walls a vibrant shade is a no-go, then accessories are the ideal way to freshen up a space.

Pops of colour can come from towels, decorative accessories on the bathroom windowsill and stylish soap dish and toothbrush holder sets. Add a vase of flowers to a shelf or hang a bold print on a wall furthest away from the shower."

If you love the botanical trend, make sure you pop into your local George store where you'll find our range.

Tips for towels

Victoria said: "The key here is to be tactile. Pick up the towel and feel how heavy it is. The greater quality, the heavier it will be. Plain white towels can add a hotel vibe to your space, while towels in a matching tone to your overall colour palette can really tie a room together. Printed towels, however, work best in a pared down space so it’s not overpowering a small area."

Adding character to your space

Victoria said her favourite bathroom accessory for adding character to a space is storage for skincare and beauty. She said: "I like to add vintage trays to house prettier bottles of lotions and potions, as well as apothecary glass jars to hold cotton wool pads and ear buds. Along with baskets for rolled up towels and a bath rack with candles burning, it creates a five star spa experience in your own home. "
