Pantone honour prince with his own shade of purple

And no, it won't be called Purple Rain

Pantone honour prince with his own shade of purple

A 'distinctive' new shade of purple, paying tribute to Prince's contribution to music, art, fashion and culture, has been created by the Prince Estate together with Pantone Color Institute

The beautiful hue, named Love Symbol #2, was inspired by the star's custom-made Yamaha purple piano which was scheduled to go on tour with the 57-year-old performer before his death in April 2016.

“The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be," Troy Carter, entertainment advisor to Prince’s Estate, said. "This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever."

There's not many pictures of Prince in any other colour than purple. But his association with the color was taken to new heights in 1984 with the release of the film Purple Rain, along with its Academy Award-winning soundtrack featuring the legendary song.

Feeling inspired? From cushions to candles and bedspreads, here's how to incorporate the soothing shade in your home.
