A Blogger’s Guide To Summer Beauty

It can be hard navigating the world of beauty, what with all the new trends cropping up every moment. That's why we talked to three of the UK's top beauty bloggers to reveal their must-try game-changing products. Read on for your ultimate beauty guide for the summer...

For the busy mum...

Busy mum of three Ambarina Hasan is the face behind, a blog where you can find reviews on all sorts of beauty products and easy-to-follow make-up tutorials.

When she’s not rushing around after the kids, Ambarina particularly loves trying out the latest skincare developments – and the latest shoes!

As a modern mum, Ambarina recognises that beauty can be difficult to juggle with a hoard of children in tow, but her blog is all about utilising the best beauty bits you come across in daily life to your advantage, and finding quick and clever beauty fixes that can be used by anyone.

Here are some of her favourites for summer:

Try a school-run pony

‘The sleek ponytail was everywhere on the catwalks and looks chic wherever you are – from the school run to the workplace. Easy to achieve with the right products, it works on most hair lengths.’

Try it: Glow Super Soft Hair Ties, £2.50; Andrew Barton Hairbrush for Mid-Long Hair, £8

Make face oil your skin’s NBF

‘Skin needs to look fresh and glowing, not bronzed and sunkissed, so it’s all about achieving a dewy complexion using minimal make-up. Try one of 2016’s biggest skincare heroes – a face oil – to help work towards that gorgeously radiant look.’

Try it: NSPA Deep Hydrating Facial Oil, £6 or 2 for £8

Do blue (eyes) for insta-glam

'Believe it or not, iconic 80s-style blue eyeshadow is set to make a big comeback... But fear not, applying it isn’t complicated. A wash of blue on the lids, or simply used as a liner, will be flattering on any skin tone.’

Try it: George Satin Soft Eye Pencil in Metal Blue, £2.75

For the 40-something glow-getter...

Ex-beauty journalist Lisa Barrett certainly knows her stuff. Having worked for big brands such as Cosmo, she now channels her energy into her health and wellbeing blog

to help fly the flag for the fabulous 40+!

While Lisa loves keeping up with the latest developments in anti-ageing skincare, treatments, fitness and nutrition on her blog, as a working mum to three children, a husband and Labrador, she’s more than happy to admit that life isn’t all glamorous parties – in fact, her blog focuses on giving real, useful advice to real women everywhere.

Read on for her top tips for summer:

Use a new-generation base

‘I’ll be using one of the new BB creams that do more than just cover your flaws. Such as ones with a high SPF or that give you a hint of a colour as well as being super-moisturising.’

Try it: NSPA Beauty Balm, £6 or 2 for £8

Embrace your grey

‘All age groups are signing up to the “grey brigade”! Rita Ora and Cara Delevigne looked amazing sporting silvery strands – so I suggest those of us turning grey naturally should celebrate it, too!’

Try it: L'Oreal Feria Metallic Silver Blonde, £5.79

Be proud of your brows

‘Eyebrows become thinner as you get older, so make them look fuller and more youthful by filling in any gaps with a pencil. Don’t go too dark for redheads and blondes – keep it natural.’

Try it: George Precision Brow Pencil in Light Brown, £2.75

Make lips matte

‘To keep your lipstick looking modern, choose matte – the texture of 2016. I’d go for a neutral shade plus a glam red and magenta to cover all your colour options for spring/summer.'

Try it: George Matte Lipstick in Luscious, £4

For the trend-setter...

28 year old Katie Snooks is a trend setter. Not afraid to challenge the status quo (and try out pastel shades), she’s always on the lookout for hot new trends.

A photography graduate from London, Katie loves nothing more than reading, writing and exploring the world. On her blog,, you can find everything from reviews on makeup, haircare, nailcare, skincare and wellbeing products, to swatches and personal product favourites.

Here are some of her favourite tip-offs for this summer:

Colour your tips

Think French manicure with brightly coloured tips. ‘Duo-coloured nails were all over the spring/summer 2016 catwalks.’

Try it: George Quick Dry Nail Varnish, £1

Create a natural glow

‘Skin base will be about creating a natural glow with foundations that are hydrating for the skin but also provide sheer, flawless coverage.’

Try it: Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation, £9

Enjoy fringe benefits

Don't be afraid to get a fringe cut in – they're bang on trend for summer 16. ‘Many celebrities are cutting them in – from Victoria Beckham’s wispy side-fringe, to Rihanna’s blocky cut. Pick one that suits you, as growing it out will be no mean feat!'

Get beauty inspo online

‘Be inspired by the beauty looks of YouTubers and vloggers! People like Sam and Nic of Pixiwoo keep it real and look so good in a gorgeously achievable way.’

Brush up

‘With every beauty technique viewable at a click of a button online, make-up application is going to be big. Rather than smoothing on foundation with our fingers, we now want to achieve a perfect airbrushed look, contouring with make-up brushes and buffing tools.’

Try it: Real Techniques Core Collection set, £20.98
