5 of the hottest new beauty trends to try this season

From grown-up glitter (that's right, it's not going anywhere) to 60s lashes, here are five hot beauty looks to try now.

1. Illuminated skin

Move along thick, doll-like foundation and make way for fresh and beautifully natural looking skin. Yes, base this season is about ensuring your face looks the best version of its natural self. Steer clear of traditional foundations and opt for tinted moisturizers as well as BB and CC creams. Work a little from the nose outwards, taking care of any blemishes with a dot of concealer. Define cheekbones and brow arches with a flash of highlighter for complexion perfection!

2. The slick side parting

Whether you love your locks poker straight, in wonder waves, whipped into a ponytail or woven into a braid, a side parting works perfectly with all styles – giving definition and a masculine edge (very AW16). While blow-drying use a comb to coax the parting into place. Then, work a sheen serum from the parting outwards to give it a sleek, wet look before spritzing with hairspray to set.

3. Twiggy lashes

Clumpy 60s lashes are big news; think Twiggy with a modern twist. After years perfecting smooth, defined ones, it will feel funny at first but it’s worth having a go. Layer up your lashes as much as possible. Then, after a few coats, start twisting and turning your brush quickly in different directions to encourage the lashes to clump together in a spiky, spidery fashion. If there are any strays clump them together by pinching them between your fingers. Use a soft eyeliner to line the waterline of your eyes to make sure no skin is peeping through. Flutterly fabulous.

4. The puffed out pony

One of our favourite and super easy hair dos has had an AW16 update. This volumised low ponytail works a treat for work, play and everything in between. Start with a good blow dry, using a thickening lotion if you have thin hair. Once puffed out using the hairdryer, pull hair back into a low pony securing at the nape of the neck. Backcomb the pony section using a comb and specialised spray before smoothing a slick serum over the crown to keep things up top frizz free. Shake out your puffy pony and you’re good to go.

5. 1940s Berry lips

Prepare your pout to go back to the future with this new take on an old school look inspired by movie stars of the 40s like Rita Hayworth. Press deep reds, pinks or purples into the lips to create a berry stain and a ‘kissed in’ effect. Softly line your lips with a pencil, then swipe your fingertip across the bullet of your chosen shade. Next, carefully pitter-patter your finger onto your pout until you have even coverage and dust with powder to stop any smudging. A low maintenance look as, once in place, it’s there to stay.
