Cut your morning routine in half with these easy tips

Hate mornings? Here’s 15 hacks to help you get ready faster

Are you constantly rushing around before work or the school run, heading out the door in one shoe? A stressful morning can put anyone in a bad mood for the rest of the day, leaving the most put-together person feeling ruffled and far from serene. To really maximise that beauty sleep and still look amazing, even on a time-poor morning, utilise these simple fashion and beauty hacks and seriously power up your morning routine.

1. Make a record of your favourite outfits

Channel Cher Horowitz from Clueless by taking a quick snap of any outfit combination you like, just before you leave the house. Not only will this work as a quick fall back for days when you are completely stuck for inspiration, but you can also analyse what works for you and adapt it so you’re never stuck for choice.

2. Choose a back-up outfit for the week

Just like having a rainy day fund, everyone should have a back-up outfit ready for those less well-planned mornings. Choose this outfit at the weekend and put it in a safe, but prominent, place on Sunday night. You’ll thank yourself come mid-week indecision.

3. Plan your outfit the night before

This includes ironing and hanging somewhere convenient so that it’s ready to put on in five seconds flat. Hopefully, you won’t be as time constricted in the evening and can take as long as you like to choose your outift. Even taking five minutes to select your favourite jumper, or that top that makes you feel like a walking powerhouse, will really help come morning time. Stuck? Start with shoes. Choosing what shoes you want to wear will give you a colour palette to work with.

4. Use your shower as a steam iron

If you hate ironing, why not cut it out altogether? The steam will help reduce the wrinkles and is way quicker than ironing your clothes.

5. Style your hair the night before

An easy way to get fuss-free hair in the morning is to style it the night before. You can check out our article on no heat hairstyles for inspiration. When you wake up, all you need to do is run a brush through lengths and ends. Perfect hair, minus the fuss.

6. Put dry shampoo in your roots before bed

Perpetually greasy hair? Instead of washing it every morning and stripping natural oils, apply dry shampoo before you go to bed and it will have all night to soak up excess oil. Then, simply brush out in the morning.

7. Wash your fringe

Cheat that ‘just washed’ look by tying your hair into a bun and just washing your fringe. You can either let it dry naturally or blow-dry with a round brush for a more professional look.

8. Organise your make-up

Think realistically about what you apply daily and organise products so they are easy to access in the morning. Choose a go-to look and only leave out what you need. Or, if you like to mix it up daily, be sure to select your make-up the night before so you aren’t in a panic when you can’t find your favourite red lippy in the morning.

9. If in doubt, apply a colour pop

For those mornings when you hit the snooze button too many times and need a helping hand, forgo your usual routine for one main ingredient: a statement lippy. There’s a reason celebrities favour red – it goes well with minimal eye make-up and bedhead waves.

10. Cover up chipped nail polish with glitter or dark colours

If you've forgotten to remove chipped nail polish and woken up to a far from perfect manicure, slick a single coat of glitter or a darker shade over the top and hey presto: a quick and easy cover-up to get you through the day.

11. Multi-task your products

Getting products to multi-task should be your #1 goal, as it can cut your beauty routine in half. From foundations and BB creams that double up as moisturiser to eye shadow palettes that have all your go-to shades and lipstick you can use as blusher, there’s an array of products out there just waiting to make your life easier. 12. Shower the night before

Washing the night before will not only save you time in the morning, but will make showering a much more pleasant experience when you’re not rushing to get out the door. You can then style your hair as per our tip #5.

13. Fake tan and moisturise in the shower

Can’t let go of your fake glow and like to moisturise every day? Get an in-shower product such as Nivea's In-shower Body Moisturiser Skin Conditioner for Dry Skin or Rimmel London's Sun Shimmer In-Shower Self Tan Hydrating Lotion and get everything out of the way with one fell swoop.

14. Purchase a pouch

If you don't have time to pack everything the night before, a great idea is to buy a small pouch to hold your essentials such as keys, card, change and favourite lipstick. You can then easily pop this into whichever bag you decide to use that day, ensuring that you don't waste time looking for all your bits and bobs.

15. Timing is everything

Routine is key, so not only is it important to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, but you also want to get into a steady morning routine to maximise results. Everyone is different and will take varying amount of time to get ready so you should consider timing your routine, to see where you could afford to shave off a few minutes. Remember: it all adds up.
