Experts reveal the best time of day to shave your legs

When it comes to shaving your legs, there’s a lot to think about; what type of razor do you prefer? Which shaving foam or oil works for your skin best?

If it’s a close shave you’re after for super smooth legs, make it a late-night session in the bathroom

Do you do it in the shower, the bath or hovering over the sink (emergency-shave style)?

But of all the considerations around leg shaving, has the 'best time of day' ever crossed your mind? We’re not talking about whether you’re simply a morning shower person, either.

According to experts, there really is a best time of day to shave your legs. An optimum time window, if you will, where you’ll get far better results.

So when does the magical hour strike? Late at night, apparently.

Experts seem to agree that shaving your legs later in the evening, just before you head to bed, will leave your skin feeling softer and smoother, because of the way our skin behaves when we’re warm and cosy under the covers.

As we sleep, say the beauty pros, our skin becomes warm and swells ever so slightly. This allows the very short prickly hairs we may have missed to retreat back into their hair follicles.

Yes, science is truly amazing.

So if it’s a close shave you’re after for super smooth legs, make it a late-night session in the bathroom. But be wary of soaking in the bath too long before shaving.

As the skin wrinkles in the water, it’ll be more difficult for your razor to get closer to the skin, and you’re more likely to end up with uneven patches, as a result.

Experts advise giving it no more than 15 to 20 minutes, though do make sure that your skin has a chance to warm up before you begin shaving, to avoid razor drag and shaving rash.
