7 gorgeous make-up ideas to try this autumn

When it comes to updating your make-up, it can be hard to know where to start. Lipstick? Eyes? Blusher? Will it suit your skin tone?

The beauty landscape can be confusing.

So to help you get started with a fresh new look, we’ve rounded up seven of the best autumn/winter 2016 make-up trends that’ll suit everyone.

No matter what your age or skin tone, give these easy make-up ideas a try...

Smoky Eyes

Get your kohl liner out, ladies: smoky eyes are full-on this season. Use a black waterproof eye pencil to line the inner rim of your lashes (the waterline), then switch to a matte black pencil to smudge above the lashes and over the lid. Finish up with black mascara to open up your eyes.

Plum Lips

Swap your reds and pinks for autumnal berries to nail this delicious trend. From wine and grape to lighter purples, any shade goes. Look for redder berry hues if you’re not keen on a purple tint and ditch the lip liner to create a modern, worn-in finish.

Bronze Effect

Metallic eyes are back, this time in shimmering shades of orangey bronze and copper. Super easy to wear, this look is best achieved with cream eyeshadows layered over powders. Alternatively, use a damp brush to give powders a metallic intensity.

Healthy Glow Blush

Put down the contouring kit! This season, cheeks are all about a healthy flush of colour. Start from the apples of your cheeks and blend peach or pink blusher outwards and upwards towards the cheekbones and temples. Aim for the rosy glow a good country walk leaves on your skin.

Grown Up Glitter

Party season will be here before you know it, so don’t shy away from the glitter. Use sparingly over bare eyelids, or pressed into a cream eyeshadow for a more intense look.

Nothing But Lippy

It’s a look that’s been on the fringes for a while, but this season bold lipstick is best executed with a seemingly bare face. Go light on foundation, leave your eyes free of shadow (a little mascara will help your peepers stand out) and then slick on a bright and bold lippy.

Gothic Glamour

If you love a daring trend, then this is the one for you. Dark lipsticks that have an ‘almost black’ finish are the 'It' look of the season for all who love to experiment. Look for especially dark plums or mix a little black into a red base to soften the finial finish.
