5 Hot Hairstyles You Have To Try This Summer

While the summer weather may be a bit hit and miss, our summer 2016 style certainly isn’t, what with peasant blouses, off the shoulder frocks and white t-shirts all making a comeback. But what about one of our most important summer accessories – our hair do? Often neglected during the hot weather for quick and easy ponytails, we forget that our hairstyle can be a sure fire way to gain some serious style points.

That’s why we’ve selected 5 iconic looks from the Spring/Summer 16 catwalks that the celebs love too, so that you can be on-trend minus the hassle – whether it’s on the 9-to-5 or sipping cocktails beside the pool. Bonus points to anyone who rocks them all in one week!

Pool Hair

TRENDING You know that look, when a Bond girl steps out of the water and pushes her hair back? That’s Pool Hair, right there. Spotted on the SS16 Kenzo catwalk, it’s a big hit with the celebs. Streamlined and flattering, all hair lengths can rock this slick and sophisticated look – ideal for a long summer’s eve.

HOW TO Wash and dry hair normally, smooth a wet-look gel from the front of your head back to the hair in line with your ears, then go over with a wide tooth comb to add definition.

The Hun

TRENDING AKA the half bun (talk about a word merge), this is the look for summer.

Stars like Margot Robbie love this look, and models rocked it on the runway at Bottega Veneta SS16. Great for all types of hair, its half-up, half-down status keeps things cool when the weather heats up.

HOW TO Section off the top layer of your hair at the crown, then spritz with hairspray for grip and texture. Twist the top section, wrap it and secure with a bobble. For a suitably ruffled Hun, rub some lifting dust into your roots.

Braidy Bunch

TRENDING You can’t move for braids right now. A-listers – including Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively – love a plait, and they were spied coming down the SS16 Celine runway in droves. By combining a ponytail with a plait, you get a braid finish that will work for any fun summer activity – day or night.

HOW TO Sweep all your hair up into a high ponytail using a paddle brush to keep your crown smooth. Tie with a bobble and plait the lengths tightly before securing with another bobble at the end. Once in place, tug the loops of your plait slightly to create texture – this will keep things looking cool rather than schoolgirl. Think casual, not preened! Don’t want to look too girly? Give make-up an edge. Smoky eyes or a bold lip should do the trick...

Embellishment

TRENDING Dolce & Gabbana models donned crowns and sparkling clips on the catwalk, and actress Emma Stone certainly rocks a bit of bouffant bling. Now wedding season is in full swing, it works a treat prettying up any occasionwear look.

HOW TO Hair bling works with all hairstyles and lengths, so be brave and experiment this summer. Style your hair (straight or curly, up or down) then add your embellishment. Spritz each clip you weave into your tresses with hairspray to keep it in place. If some sparklers don’t have enough grip, just secure them with Invisigrips so you can move your head around freely once it’s all in place.

Mermaid Waves

TRENDING The talk of the beauty town, this under-the-sea wave is super-easy to DIY. It was all over the Roksanda and Gucci SS16 shows, and Gigi Hadid (model and one half of celeb couple ‘Zigi’) is a massive fan.

HOW TO Take freshly washed and dried hair, part into 5cm-wide chunks, and wrap each section around a curling tong from the mid-lengths down, leaving 2-5cm at the end uncurled. Allow to cool, spritz with salt spray, then comb through with your fingers. The key to the ‘mermaid waves’ look is keeping things casual. Beach babe ahoy!
