Six ways to turn fitness into a fashion statement

Athleisure, or sports luxe, is the new trend that means you can look stylish and feel comfortable at the same time. As trainers, leggings and sporty fabrics take centre stage for spring, be sure you're on trend by making a few athleisure updates to your wardrobe. Plus, sportswear is now so stylish you'll actually want to take your new trainers from the school run to the bar without changing into skyscraper heels.

Athleisure isn't about dragging your old gym gear from the bottom of the wardrobe, this is sports luxe: shiny new pieces that will lift your current wardrobe and give you a style status that's way ahead of your friends. So team your favourite tailored workwear with slip on trainers, leggings with your leather jacket and a sporty sweatshirt with a skirt. Here’s how to embrace the athleisure trend this season…

Mix tailoring and sportwear

Trainers with tailored trouers have proven to be one of this year's biggest trends: time and time again, it’s proven a winning formula – as long as it’s done well. Team loosely tailored shirts, sweatshirts or tees and trousers with trainers to make athleisure work in the office.

Team smart accessories and street style classics with casual leggings

Update your wardobe and swap skinny jeans for leggings this spring. Try teaming them with a relaxed shirt or tee for a soft take on athleisure and throw on a leather biker jacket for added style points. Don't forget your structured handbag to give your look a polished finish.

Add a touch of bright colour

Bright trainers are one of our favourite athleisure accessories for spring/summer and can be worn with pretty much anything. We love this grey knit and skinny jeans combo, but don’t be afraid to experiment a little with this one.

Embrace the tailored tracksuit

Tracksuits are not what they used to be. The current trend for tailored tracksuit trousers balances style and comfort in the most wonderful way possible. Choose tailored or cigarette shaped tracksuits and just add loosely tailored shirts, slouchy jumpers and a pair of heels.  Don’t forget the sunglasses to complete the look.

Invest in sporty fabrics

Sportswear is made from hardwearing fabrics designed to 'wick' sweat and keep you cool. This unique blend of materials makes sports luxe styles the perfect pieces to keep your every day look sleek – and comfortable. Athleisure-appropriate pieces in neutral colours will update last season's denim and complement this season's a-line or full mini skirts.

Choose a bomber jacket

Last season's plain bomber has been updated with softer shades and shiny fabrics for spring. The best bit? You can throw them on over jeans and tee to really up the ante on your off duty wardrobe, or team with tailoring and heels for a vamped up eveningwear look.
