When it comes to taking inspiration from Fashion Week, it’s all about finding that balance between what the designers put down the runway and what’s practical for you.
First stop, New York fashion week
Everyone raves about New York’s energy and designers always capture that fun feeling in their collections. So where do you start when it comes to revamping your wardrobe in time for next year's spring and summer seasons? Well, you’re already in the right place because we've got all the trends in store at George so you can ‘work it’ your way.
Here are our favourite trends seen at New York and how to get the look with George.
1. Dare to sheer
It sounds daunting but it doesn’t have to be if you get your layering right. By wearing a slip dress, tee or even a pair of jeans underneath, you can dabble in the sheer trend confidently. Here’s a look hot off the Calvin Klein runway which ticks all the right boxes.
Don’t worry if you don’t like showing off your arms - you don’t have to. This pretty red dress gives the impression of visible skin without being too daring.
2. Trench Twist
Tom Ford has reignited our love for the trench coat. This season he has refreshed the classic look with a studded belt and made it funky!
An all-white coat can be quite scary if you’re prone to spilling things so opt for a pretty pastel if in doubt; this baby blue trench is a great way to own the trend. The trusty coast is also ideal during transitional months. You can tie the belt to cinch in the waist when it’s chilly and drape it over your shoulders when warmer.
3. Pretty Pastels
We let out a sigh of relief when Victoria Beckham had her models dressed head to toe in pastel tones. It’s an opportunity to rework what we already own but add a pinch of newness. Here’s a little sneak peek from the Vic Becks show.
Opt for an all over pastel look or just add accents of pinks, nudes and light hues to your outfit. Pink can wash you out if you’re not careful but a duskier pink, like our new favourite frill hem blouse, can add a feminine touch.
4. reverse Layering
When Alexander Wang is in town the rulebook goes out the window. Everything is a little topsy-turvy, which gives us all an excuse to experiment. Do you remember when everyone was using the phrase ‘innerwear is outwear’? Well, the trend is back. (See the picture below, left)
5. Denim DREAM
Coach 1941 gave us all a reason to get excited this season. Embroidery is still in and it means we can have a bit of fun with our spring/summer wardrobe.
There’s no need to pay the high designer prices though - we’ve got the perfect jean jacket at George. Wear it with a slogan tee, black jeans and some sparkly trainers for a runway finish.
