Fashion alert: corsets are back

We love the dazzling trends that London Fashion Week wows us with. Some are wonderfully ridiculous - think clingfilm tops and disco ball shoes - but this fantasy fashionista world is all part of LFW's appeal. Which is why we're so surprised about this year's treatment of 'the corset'. They've been turned from the latex bone-busters you might be imagining into everyday outfits

Not like those super sexy ones from Alexander McQueen and Prada that 2016 bought us...

Outerwear not underwear

2017 is about wearable corsets. Forget burlesque and bustiers, some of these corsets would be perfectly acceptable for attending afternoon tea in.

Antonio Beradi’s collection was big on ready-to-wear floral corsets that actually looked comfortable and flattering.

Or corsets that were plain in colour and served more to accentuate waistlines on shift-style dresses rather than as a 'keep-to-the-bedroom' number.

Teatum Jones collection also embraced the wearable corset, making them blend into the dress rather than as stand-out alone pieces.

Thornton Bregazzi’s runway show featured corsets over and under loose-fit and baggy clothing.

How to rock the look

The trend is all about learning to wear your corset as outerwear and staying chic NOT tacky.  Keep it simple and don't show too much flesh.

Fashion bloggers are enjoying the more wearable street look, Instagram star Eva McMahon was quick to follow trend and nails it with this cute over the t-shirt corset look.
