Peek Inside The Queen’s Wardrobe With This Stunning New Exhibit

Some of the Queen's most iconic outfits will be on display at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday. The 'Fashioning A Reign: 90 Years of Style from the Queen's Wardrobe' exhibition will not be open to the public until 23rd July, however the palace offered an exclusive preview of the collection today and it was – as you would expect – simply stunning.

This year has been filled with wonderful celebrations for the Queen's birthday, from beautiful new family photos to commemorative stamps to birthday bakes, but this exhibit showcasing the Queen's style might be our favourite one yet! Featuring dazzling evening gowns, the Queen's famous tonal outfits and even her military uniform, Her Majesty's outfits throughout the years are certainly a sight to behold. Get a sneak peek of the Queen's outfits below, including what she wore to the Royal Wedding.

During the Second World War, Her Majesty became the first female member of the Royal Family to join the Armed Services as a full-time active member and donned the standard battledress uniform, seen below.

The Queen's outfits on display include the yellow dress and coat that she wore to Prince William and Kate's wedding. The cheerful outfit was completed with a matching hat, adorned with handmade silk roses and apricot-coloured leaves.

Also on display will be the wedding dress worn by the then Princess Elizabeth for her marriage to The Duke of Edinburgh on 20th November 1947 and the Queen’s Coronation dress, both designed by Sir Norman Hartnell (watch incredible videos of both events here). Here is one of the designer's other beautiful creations, a silk crêpe embroidered evening gown that the Queen wore during a visit to Ottawa to to mark the centennial celebrations of the Confederation of Canada.

Here’s another beautiful gown created by Sir Norman Hartnell that the Queen wore during a State Visit to The Netherlands in 1958.

Isn't the Queen's wardrobe incredible? See these gorgeous outfits and many more at the 'Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen's Wardrobe' exhibition at Buckingham Palace from 23rd July – 2nd October.
