The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has long been winning the hearts of the nation and is arguably the most popular royal since Princess Diana. And it’s easy to see why.
From her love of high street fashion to her extensive charity work, here's why we've fallen in love with the Duchess...
From her love of high street fashion to her extensive charity work, sassy eye rolls and disregard for overly-stuffy protocol, she’s the one royal we can’t get enough of.
Here are just a few of the reasons we’ve fallen in love with the Duchess...
SHE MADE RECYCLING CLOTHES COOL
Before the Duchess of Cambridge started making a point of wearing her favourite and most famous pieces more than once (her LK Bennett nude pumps have become an almost permanent fixture), it was a bit ‘uncool’ to be spotted in the same dress several times. We’ve always done it of course, but we love Kate for shaking off the stigma as well.
SHE’S THE NEW FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER
After Kate’s father Michael Middleton took the first official family photograph of Prince William and the Duchess with newborn George, Kate herself has now turned family photographer. Instead of getting in a professional that her children don’t know, she’s been brushing up on her skills to take all official portraits of her little ones herself.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to be able to share two new photographs of Princess Charlotte. They were taken by The Duchess in early November at their home in Norfolk. The Duke and Duchess continue to receive warm messages about Princess Charlotte from all around the world and they hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as they do.
PROTOCOL DOESN’T STOP HER
According to official protocol, you’re not really supposed to touch the royals when you meet them. But does Kate let that stop her from hugging the children who bring her gifts and posing for photographs with the people she meets? No ma’am.
NEITHER DOES TRADITION…
Kate broke years of royal tradition when she had William present in the room as she gave birth to Prince George in 2013 and then again last year when she gave birth to Princess Charlotte. She’s not afraid to do things the modern way and we applaud her for that.
HER BRILLIANT CHARITY WORK
From working with children’s charities and family support groups to helping initiatives for women and disadvantaged young people, Kate’s charity work always see her getting very hands-on. There’s no holding back for this royal!
SHE STILL LOVES HIGH STREET SHOPPING
Yes, she does stick to the upper end of the high street but in a world where she could wear designer threads all day, every day, we do admire the Duchess for continuing to seeking out the high street brands she knows and loves instead.
SHE LOVES A GOOD LAUGH
Kate can often be seen laughing away with Prince Harry, William, Camilla and even the Queen in the background of high profile royal events. Clearly a woman who enjoys a good joke, the Duchess is always on hand to lighten the mood.
SHE SAID NO TO OLD FASHIONED MARRIAGE VOWS
Traditionally, the vows at a royal wedding read ‘love, cherish and obey’. When Kate married William in 2011 however, the pair decided to be the first couple to swap the old school vows for modern phrasing and instead promised to ‘love, comfort, honour and keep’ each other.
SHE DOES HER OWN GROCERY SHOPPING
Nothing remarkable for most of us, of course, but being a Duchess we’re sure Kate could get away with having somebody else pacing the aisles for her. Not this royal though: while living in Anglesey with William, the Duchess was often seen ferrying her bagged goods back to the car.
KATE’S GOT A SASSY SIDE
And she’s not afraid to show it! Remember the eye roll when she was asked to speed up on her present wrapping duties during her New York visit?
