The Good Living guide to looking amazing in jeans

Worn as workers' trousers in 1873, donned by rock stars in the 80s or ripped up by students since the dawn of time, a pair of jeans is a wardrobe staple and the foundation of many an outfit. But finding the perfect pair can often be a minefield.

Thankfully, at George, we’ve done all the leg work for you, so you can find your perfect fit. Just make sure you follow this fast track cheat sheet which gives you some top denim tips and all the details about our new range.

1. What cut is for me?

Whatever your shape or size there’s a pair of jeans for you. But what's the difference between all of the different cuts?

Jeggings (middle left) - They're of denim appearance but come with soft legging comfort. They hug the body and create a sleek silhouette and they are less restrictive; perfect for fluctuating size days.

Straight cut jeans (left) - Classic universal style, flattering for fuller thighs and there's more give in the waistline.

Skinny jeans (right) - Works for petite figures or long and tall legs as it helps to accentuates curves. They can also give boyish figures the illusion of a more defined silhouette.

High waisted and super skinny jeans (middle right) - Legs can look longer in these jeans and they can disguise long torsos, whilst taming tummies and defining waists.

2. How to Fight The Fade

Die hard denim fans will advise to steer clear of washing new jeans for as long as possible and resort to dry cleaning. But our lasting black jean is guaranteed for 20 washes. For added care, turn inside out and wash cold.

3. no need to worry about jeans losing shape

Ever thought you'd found the perfect pair of jeans but after a few wears, they lose their shape? Panic not. Featuring 4-way stretch, shape-retention fabric with bounce back, the Wonderform holds you in and keeps its shape wear after wear.

4. no bagginess!

If you're after a pair of jeans which make the most of your figure then look no further than the Wonderfit jean. Comfortable all day long and night, it alters to fit a range of multiple sizes with no bagginess.

5. use shades, creases and pockets to your advantage

Features like rear pockets, fading and the creases aren't just there to look good. These special features can all work to your advantage too. Darker shades slim you down, whilst light washes and strategic fading can help amplify where needed, perfect for balancing your body's proportions. A pressed crease down the centre of each leg gives the illusion of added height, whilst rear pockets and a V-shape on the back help to give your booty a boost.

6. Roll With It

Right about now, turn up jeans are having a major fashion moment. It's a free and easy style update that works well with fancy flats or sharp heels. If you're thinking of doing do with skinny fitted jeans, only turn up twice to avoid a bulky cuff.  For straight fits, try a deep single cuff for a cropped leg turn up combo that’s bang on trend.

7. How to rock your jeans 24/7

Pair your best jeans with a classic white tee, top or shirt. Add statement flats and a masculine tailored coat for an on-trend, modern look that takes you from work to play. No brainer on-the-go-cool.

8. double denim is a goer

No longer a fashion crime, the trick to nailing double denim is to pair tops and bottoms in similar tones. Baggy fits in this combination tend to be unflattering and can be hard to pull off so keep to a slim cut silhouette for a look that bridges smart and casual; perfect with heels, flats or trainers.

9. Denim Deluxe

The devil’s in the detail when it comes to adding personality to denim. Rips and frays and turn ups add cool points but for pimped up denim, take your cue from the catwalk and look for embellishments for a look that says 'urban luxe'.

10. which shoes to choose

So, you’ve found the ultimate jean which looks great and fits like a glove, hallelujah! But what shoes complete the look?

Skinny leg: Flats work well or you could try wearing your favourite trainers or stiletto and kitten heel shoes. If you tuck your jeans in you could also rock a pair of boots.

Bootcut: Block heels look great and the same can be said for wedges, boots worn underneath or retro trainers.

Straight and boyfriend: The great thing about these types of jeans is that they can be worn with any shoe of your choosing.
